Burdened and tired?
7 min read, approximately

“Then Jesus said: ‘Come to me, all who are tired and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, for I am humble and tenderhearted, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.’” (Matthew 11:28-30)
In our daily lives, we often start something with great motivation. Sooner or later, however, worries and concerns begin to overcome us until we end up heavily burdened and tired. For some, this produces feelings of helplessness, stress, and pressure, while others are brought to the brink of suicidal thoughts.
Another group receives God’s Word, yet what happens is like the parable of the sower
“Now listen to the explanation of the parable about the farmer who went out to sow: the seeds that fell on the path represent those who hear the message of the kingdom and do not understand it. Then the evil one comes and snatches away the seed sown in their hearts. The seeds on rocky ground represent those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy; but because they have no deep roots, they do not last long. As soon as they face trouble or persecution for believing God’s word, they fall away. The seeds that fell among thorns represent those who hear God’s word, but very soon the message is crowded out by the worries of this life and the attraction of wealth, so no fruit is produced.” (Matthew 13:18-22)
Has it helped us to say: “Lord, I will do it”, “Lord, I will handle it”? Have we gained anything?
“Therefore I tell you: do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the sky: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they are? And who among you, however much you worry, can add a cubit to your height? And why do you worry about clothing?
Consider how the lilies of the field grow: they neither toil nor spin. Yet I tell you that even Solomon in all his glory was not dressed like one of them. If God clothes the grass of the field this way, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not do much more for you, people of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying: What will we eat, or what will we drink, or what will we wear? For the Gentiles seek all these things, but your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:25-34)
Let us allow the Lord to help us! Worry, anxiety, stress, and concern create burdens so heavy that they only lead us to despair or the brink of madness. No money? Debts? No food? No job? Little income? “Come to me, all who are tired and carry heavy burdens”
Be calm; we are not alone!
Take heart, the Lord is here for us! He is waiting for us to trust him: “Come to me, all who are tired and carry heavy burdens”… That is why God encourages us to:
\1. Tell the Lord in prayer what worries us
“Do not be anxious about anything; instead, let your requests be made known before God in every prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving.” (Philippians 4:6)
\2. Trust in the Lord, and he will act
“Trust in the Lord and do good; you will dwell in the land and be nourished by truth. Delight also in the Lord, and he will grant you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord and trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness like the light, and your just cause like the noonday. Be silent before the Lord and wait for him. Do not be upset because of those who prosper in their way, because of those who do evil. Leave anger behind and put aside wrath; do not let yourself be provoked into doing evil. For evildoers will be destroyed, but those who wait for the Lord will inherit the earth. In a little while the wicked will be no more; you will look at their place, and they will not be there. But the meek will inherit the earth and delight in abundant peace.” (Psalms 37:3-11)
\3. Be at peace, for he has everything under control
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you when the time comes; cast all your anxiety upon him, for he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
and please
\4. Give our burdens to the Lord; he always knows what to do: “Come to me, all who are tired and carry heavy burdens”
“Come to me, all who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls; for my yoke is easy and my burden light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
Can we pray, trust, be at peace, and give control of our lives to the one who tells us: “Come to me, all who are tired and carry heavy burdens”?
“For I, the Lord, am your God, who holds your right hand and says to you: Do not fear; I will help you.” (Isaiah 41:13)
Please, let us not wait until it is too late…
“Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for timely help.” (Hebrews 4:16)
Let us pray
Lord, today I come to you, first to thank you for everything you have given me up to this day.
The truth is that, with so many tasks, I forgot how protected, sustained, sheltered, loved, and blessed I have been.
I did not notice when worry, anxiety, stress, and concern nested within me, leaving me burdened and tired.
I was navigating without you, and today I recognize that this is one of the most foolish things I have done.
Today I return to the one who tells me: ‘Come to me, all who are tired and carry heavy burdens.’
I cast aside my selfishness; I long for you to take control of my life again from now on, and I release my burdens to you.
Please bring order to my thoughts, decisions, and actions. Reign within me so that I may act calmly, in peace—yes, that very peace you know how to give.
I surrender to you; I give you my life, my mind, my being, my King, so that you may reign over my innermost self. I ask you this, Lord, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Do not forget: “Come to me, all who are tired and carry heavy burdens”!
