Are there statutes for God's children?
5 min read, approximately

“For they that say such things make it manifest that they are seeking after a country of their own. And if indeed they had been mindful of that [country] from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return. But now they desire a better [country], that is, a heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God; for he hath prepared for them a city.” (Hebrews 11:14-16)
“For he has prepared a city for them.”…
After accepting the Lord as our Savior and beginning our walk as God’s children (John 1:12), we begin to delight in knowing more about him. We want to know his plans, his thoughts, and what he desires for us, and countless questions arise.
“Delight thyself also in Jehovah; And he will give thee the desires of thy heart.” (Psalms 37:4)
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate thereon day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” (Joshua 1:8)
We know that the answers to all these questions are found in God’s Word!
As we read and learn, we come across the ten commandments we must keep… “You shall have no other gods”… “You shall not make an image of anything at all”… (We find them in Exodus 20)
This is where God’s statutes come in, helping us fulfill these commandments completely.
Statutes? Could I learn some of them?
God’s statutes are standards, rules, or instructions that serve as divine guidelines for righteous behavior acceptable to God. They may specify dates, establish customs and conduct, and explain how we should proceed in certain matters, among other things. There are many—it is our task to immerse ourselves in God’s Word to find more! For today, let us turn to the Word and name a few:
\1. Baptism and evangelism
“Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
\2. The Lord’s Supper
“For I received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which he was betrayed took bread; and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, This is my body, which is for you: this do in remembrance of me. In like manner also the cup, after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood: this do, as often as ye drink [it], in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink the cup, ye proclaim the Lord’s death till he come.” (1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
\3. Giving offerings and tithes
“Upon the first day of the week let each one of you lay by him in store, as he may prosper, that no collections be made when I come.” (1 Corinthians 16:2)
“Bring ye the whole tithe into the store-house, that there may be food in my house, and prove me now herewith, saith Jehovah of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough [to receive it]. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast its fruit before the time in the field, saith Jehovah of hosts. And all nations shall call you happy; for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith Jehovah of hosts.” (Malachi 3:10-12)
\4. Praying
“Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: with all prayer and supplication praying at all seasons in the Spirit, and watching thereunto in all perseverance and supplication for all the saints,” (Ephesians 6:17-18)
\5. Studying the Word
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate thereon day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” (Joshua 1:8)
\6. Serving the Lord
“in diligence not slothful; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;” (Romans 12:11)
