“Put your affairs in order because you are going to die”?
3 min read, approximately

“In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, Set thy house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.” (Isaiah 38:1)
Dilemma
We all enjoy growing, becoming better each day, spending time with family, traveling, discovering new things, sharing… But above all, nothing matters more to us than good health and a long life.
We remember very well the promises the Word teaches us, but when someone speaks to us about dying, a chill runs through our whole body. The truth is that we forget we all have an ‘expiration date’ and that one day this will happen to us.
Order
No one likes to talk about death, but it is inevitable for all humanity. Today, however, we will walk through the Word to remember what we must keep in mind while alive, because once we are dead, nothing can be done:
\1. We have all sinned
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23)
That is right: sin separates us from God, and there was no escape… God’s wrath was coming upon us. However, God changed the order of things!
\2. But Christ paid the price we had to pay
“But God commendeth his own love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
\3. There is no other way; the only way is Jesus
“Jesus said to him: I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
\4. Now, let us confess our sins
“He that covereth his transgressions shall not prosper; But whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall obtain mercy.” (Proverbs 28:13)
\5. Let us accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior
“because if thou shalt confess with thy mouth Jesus [as] Lord, and shalt believe in thy heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved: for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be put to shame.” (Romans 10:9-11)
\6. Let us believe and share the gospel
“And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved, thou and thy house. And they spake the word of the Lord unto him, with all that were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, immediately. And he brought them up into his house, and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly, with all his house, having believed in God.” (Acts 16:31-34)
How wonderful it would be if, after all these things, this happened:
“And he said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To-day shalt thou be with me in Paradise.” (Luke 23:43)
Conclusion
Today’s question is: if the Lord came to inspect us today, would we be ready?
Are our papers in order to be with him?
