Building on the Rock?
3 min read, approximately

“Whoever, then, hears these words of mine and does them, I will compare to a prudent man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the rivers rose, the winds blew and struck that house; it did not fall, because it was founded on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24-25)
Day after day we are tempted to put our trust in human promises, the news, the weather forecast, the economy, a television program, and so on… Sadly, all of this is changeable, and it does not take extensive knowledge to understand that it will only bring us disappointment. On what are our lives, marriages, relationships, children, work, service, and ministry built? Isn’t it true that many marriages today end in divorce, couples experience infidelity, children grow up going astray, we end up enslaved to work, and our service and ministry are carried out to gain people’s approval (Galatians 1:10)…? Why does this happen? We need only look around to realize that without God, people do not know how to govern or care for themselves. Isn’t a bland, harsh, and senseless life sad? The Word says:
“For in him all things were created, those in heaven and those on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, dominions, principalities, or powers; everything was created through him and for him.” (Colossians 1:16)
We belong to him and exist for him! You know, you and I need Christ’s rule in our lives:
“For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 3:11)
. Without Christ’s rule in our lives, our work tends to crumble. Everything has an instruction manual to ensure that it functions properly, and you and I are no exception! We need to meditate on the Word and put it into practice:
“How can a young person keep his way pure? By keeping your word.” (Psalms 119:9)
“This book of the law shall never depart from your mouth; rather, you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you observe and do everything written in it. Then you will make your way prosper, and everything will go well for you.” (Joshua 1:8)
“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit guide me to a land of uprightness.” (Psalms 143:10)
What if, starting today, we began reading God’s Word and putting it into practice in our lives, and also accepted Christ as Lord so that he takes the helm of our lives, families, children, work, and ministry and guides our boat? It is certainly in our best interest:
“Whoever, then, hears these words of mine and does them, I will compare to a prudent man who built his house on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24)
Today we can change this situation…
“But whoever hears these words of mine and does not do them, I will compare to a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain came down, the rivers rose, the winds blew and beat fiercely against that house; it fell, and great was its ruin.” (Matthew 7:26-27)
