Are we unequally yoked with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit?
3 min read, approximately

“Be not unequally yoked with unbelievers: for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? or what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what portion hath a believer with an unbeliever?” (2 Corinthians 6:14-15)
When we were little and needed permission to go somewhere, we often used cunning, devising an elaborate strategy to ask our parents to let us go. We asked one and then the other, hoping to get a ‘Yes.’ If one disagreed and challenged us, we simply said, ‘Mom or Dad gave us permission.’ But this does not apply to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Everything is absolutely clear to them. There is no division among them. If we want to know what they think, let us go to the Word. Usually, the verse above is associated with not entering a relationship with an unbelieving partner, to avoid future problems. But today let us go to the Word and see where we ourselves may be unequally yoked: \1. Do we like being served but dislike serving? How often have we gone to a restaurant and become irritated by poor service? Now… how often have we taken on the role of the waiter ourselves?
“even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:28)
\2. Is giving still a dilemma for us? Are we among those who say, ‘Excuse us! We have come to receive!’ or ‘Excuse us! We have come to help! What needs doing?’
“[Let] each man [do] according as he hath purposed in his heart: not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7)
\3. Have we forgotten what it means to be peacemakers? Do we usually say, ‘Honestly, we are better off without that person!’ or ‘We are certainly all needed in the Lord’s work’?
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 3:23-24)
\4. Lord, do you really want us to forgive this person? Do we still struggle to forgive? Our Father who is in heaven…
“And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” (Matthew 6:12)
What a beautiful prayer, isn’t it? And 5. Do we follow Jesus’ example or that of other people? Are we still trying to justify what we desire?
“For I have given you an example, that ye also should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, A servant is not greater than his lord; neither one that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know these things, blessed are ye if ye do them.” (John 13:15-17)
Jesus says:
“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:29-30)
The question is: Are we unequally yoked with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit?
