Holy Spirit, am I aware of what you do?

“But I tell you the truth: It is good for you that I go away, for if I do not go, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.” (John 16:7)

We often meet people who have followed the gospel for a long time, yet all they know about the Holy Spirit is that he descended upon Jesus in the form of a dove (John 1:32-34), and that we baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19). Today, let us broaden our knowledge of the Holy Spirit a little. \1. Nothing escapes him!

“But God revealed these things to us through the Spirit, for the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:10)

\2. If we do what John 14:15 says, he will be with us forever!

“…I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Comforter to be with you forever: the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, because he lives with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17)

\3. He is saddened when we choose to continue living a sinful life:

“Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” (Ephesians 4:30)

\4. He knows it all!

“But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.” (John 14:26)

\5. He intercedes on our behalf:

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what we ought to ask for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings beyond words. The one who searches hearts knows the Spirit’s intention, because he intercedes for the saints according to God’s will.” (Romans 8:26-27)
