“Why do you say, O Jacob, and declare, Israel: My way is hidden from the Lord, and my cause has been overlooked by my God?” (Isaiah 40:27)

We are not the only ones who have ever felt this way. The people of Israel also felt abandoned, without a shepherd, forgotten, rejected, and as though God was no longer with them. If we read all of Isaiah chapter 40, we can picture a little girl crying inconsolably at her father’s knees while he offers her comfort, hope, and encouragement. But what can lead us to this state? Boredom? Distress? A lack of assertiveness? Dissatisfaction? Insecurity? Sadness? Depression? Jesus explained this very well:

“The sower sows the word. These are the ones beside the path, where the word is sown: after they hear it, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word sown in their hearts. Likewise, those sown on rocky ground are the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy. But they have no root in themselves and last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly stumble. Those sown among thorns are the ones who hear the word, but the worries of this age, the deceitfulness of riches, and desires for other things enter and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.” (Mark 4:14-19)

So what should we do to stop feeling this way? \0. Let us focus on God’s kingdom:

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)

… How do we do this? \1. By fixing our eyes on Jesus:

“Therefore, since we too are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that entangles us, and run with perseverance the race set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)

… And what comes next? \2. Please, let us give our burdens to Jesus:

“Come to me, all who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

… In what way? Tomorrow we continue with the second part!

\3. Fast: “Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your salvation will quickly appear. Your righteousness will go before you, and the Lord’s glory will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and the Lord will hear; you will cry out, and he will say: Here I am. If you remove from your midst the yoke, the threatening finger, and empty talk, and give your bread to the hungry and satisfy the afflicted soul, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your gloom will be like midday. The Lord will always shepherd you, satisfy your soul in drought, and strengthen your bones. You will be like a watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” (Isaiah 58:8-11) \4. Pray: “Pray without ceasing. Give thanks in everything, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17-18) \5. And meditate on God’s Word: “Rather, his delight is in the Lord’s law, and on his law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree planted beside streams of water, bearing fruit in its season, whose leaves do not wither; everything he does will prosper.” (Psalms 1:2-3)… And while this happens… Let us be filled with his Holy Spirit and not quench him! “Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to dissipation; instead, be filled with the Spirit.” (Ephesians 5:18). “Do not quench the Spirit.” (1 Thessalonians 5:19) In a few words, let us keep our minds occupied with the matters of God’s kingdom! Do you know why? Because it is good for us! “For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty in God for demolishing strongholds, tearing down arguments and every proud thing that rises against the knowledge of God, and taking every thought captive in obedience to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)… So, “Examine everything; hold on to what is good.” (1 Thessalonians 5:21)… Watch your thoughts! I think we already have plenty of experience of what happens when we let a bad thought through…

May God continue to bless you
