Does our lamp have oil?

“One thing have I asked of Jehovah, that will I seek after: That I may dwell in the house of Jehovah all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of Jehovah, And to inquire in his temple.” (Psalms 27:4)

Today we find various groups debating whether Saturday or Sunday is the day to seek the Lord… Saturday is definitely better; no, Sunday is better… But have we thought about what would happen if the Lord comes on a Friday or a Tuesday? Can you imagine if we only wait for Saturday or Sunday to seek him? The Word says:

“For as the lightning cometh forth from the east, and is seen even unto the west; so shall be the coming of the Son of man.” (Matthew 24:27)

… The Word teaches us that we must:

“Seek ye Jehovah while he may be found; call ye upon him while he is near: let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto Jehovah, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith Jehovah.” (Isaiah 55:6-8)

Is there anyone who does not need the Lord every day? Anyone who does not need renewed strength after the daily weariness of work? Anyone who does not need the Lord’s guidance daily?… But what if, when we cry out to the Lord, he tells us: ‘Take a number and come back on Saturday or Sunday’? Do you know how wonderful the Lord is?

“For he knoweth our frame; He remembereth that we are dust.” (Psalms 103:14)

… Without a doubt,

“[It is of] Jehovah’s lovingkindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)

He understands us and tells us:

“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

His arms are open to us every day! The Lord is willing, but are we?

“And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are going out. But the wise answered, saying, Peradventure there will not be enough for us and you: go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went away to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage feast: and the door was shut.” (Matthew 25:8-10)

“Watch therefore: for ye know not when the lord of the house cometh, whether at even, or at midnight, or at cockcrowing, or in the morning; lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.” (Mark 13:35-37)

“Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them sit down to meat, and shall come and serve them. And if he shall come in the second watch, and if in the third, and find [them] so, blessed are those [servants].” (Luke 12:37-38)

“Remember therefore how thou hast received and didst hear; and keep [it], and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.” (Revelation 3:3)

Will we keep debating whether it is Saturday or Sunday, or will we seek the Lord every day so that our lamp has oil and the Lord does not catch us unprepared?

While we sleep, does the evil one come and sow weeds?

A biblical call to remain spiritually watchful, put the Word into practice, and guard against bitterness, laziness, and drifting away from the Shepherd.
