Careless?
3 min read, approximately

“Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things that were heard, lest haply we drift away [from them]. For if the word spoken through angels proved stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward; how shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation? which having at the first been spoken through the Lord, was confirmed unto us by them that heard; God also bearing witness with them, both by signs and wonders, and by manifold powers, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to his own will.” (Hebrews 2:1-4)
Everything has an instruction manual for its care, and it is no surprise that our manual is the Bible.
How many times have we said: “If I had known the Lord earlier, meditated on his Word, and put it into practice, surely I would not have gone through what I did.”?
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, And light unto my path.” (Psalms 119:105)
But why does this happen to us?
Generally, carelessness results from a lack of attention, being distracted, misjudging our priorities, or being forgetful.
(If not all) Most of the mistakes we make come from not paying attention to instructions we received earlier, or simply never keeping them in mind.
“A prudent man seeth the evil, and hideth himself; But the simple pass on, and suffer for it.” (Proverbs 22:3)
And how do we solve it?
How many times have we stumbled in life because of our carelessness? Do we like living this way? Does anyone enjoy making mistake after mistake?
“… If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31b-32)
If we truly long to change this label of “Careless”, the Lord’s Word, as always, brings us a simple instruction:
“This book of the law shall never depart from your mouth; rather, you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you observe and do everything written in it. Then you will make your way prosper, and everything will go well for you.” (Joshua 1:8)
Keeping God’s Word in mind and putting it into practice always, always, always brings benefits…
“Oh how love I thy law! It is my meditation all the day. Thy commandments make me wiser than mine enemies; For they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers; For thy testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the aged, Because I have kept thy precepts. I have refrained my feet from every evil way, That I might observe thy word. I have not turned aside from thine ordinances; For thou hast taught me. How sweet are thy words unto my taste! [Yea, sweeter] than honey to my mouth! Through thy precepts I get understanding: Therefore I hate every false way.” (Psalms 119:97-104)
What do we choose: ‘Careless, suffering harm,’ or ‘Those who meditate on the Word, to become doers of it and walk as children of the King’?
