Do we despise the Lord?
4 min read, approximately

“He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we esteemed him not.” (Isaiah 53:3)
We all go through a stage when we want to win someone’s heart. We do everything possible to win over the person we like.
We end up devising a whole plan and rehearsing it again and again to avoid mistakes, but how sad and overwhelming it is to receive a ‘No’ in return.
Who likes being rejected? Who likes being despised?
You know… Jesus redeemed us, gave us eternal life, justified us, forgave us, and offered us the opportunity to have fellowship with the Father because he reconciled us to God… Neither you nor I should be here today, because our wages should have been death… Yet he saved us from that sentence!
Let us look at the Lord’s daily experience
Day after day, he stands at the door and knocks, but we leave him waiting
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” (Revelation 3:20)
Day after day, he reminds us of his number so that we can call him, but we leave him waiting
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and will show thee great things, and difficult, which thou knowest not.” (Jeremiah 33:3)
Day after day, he tells us that he loves us, but we are indifferent
“Jehovah appeared of old unto me, [saying], Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” (Jeremiah 31:3)
Day after day, he protects us from so many things we do not even know about, and at the end of the day we do not even thank him
“For the Chief Musician. [A Psalm] of the sons of Korah; set to Alamoth. A Song. God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.” (Psalms 46:1)
Day after day, he creates opportunities and opens doors so that we may be blessed, but when the time comes to give glory and honor, we say: ‘How clever we are!’
“I know thy works (behold, I have set before thee a door opened, which none can shut), that thou hast a little power, and didst keep my word, and didst not deny my name.” (Revelation 3:8)
Each day we come to a church service, he eagerly awaits us and begins to speak to us with delight. Yet while this happens, we spend more time looking at the clock than enjoying his presence
“Be not hasty to go out of his presence; persist not in an evil thing: for he doeth whatsoever pleaseth him.” (Ecclesiastes 8:3)
Have we despised the Lord?
We might have an excuse for despising him before accepting him as Lord and Savior, since we did not know him…
But now… do we remember that moment? Do we remember when we accepted the Lord as our Lord and Savior?
Since that moment… have we despised the Lord?
“He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and Jehovah hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, yet when he was afflicted he opened not his mouth; as a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before its shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth.” (Isaiah 53:3-7)
Will we keep despising him, or will we show up for our appointment?
Then get up… It is time!
