Are we dressed for the wedding?
2 min read, approximately

“But when the king came in to behold the guests, he saw there a man who had not on a wedding-garment: and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding-garment? And he was speechless. Then the king said to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and cast him out into the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few chosen.” (Matthew 22:11-14)
Through God’s Word, we have learned that the Lord’s mercy is new every morning, that he sustains and protects us, blesses us, and makes us prosper. We have also learned that he redeemed, cleansed, and washed us, because God loves us with an everlasting love. But let us examine why this man was not dressed for the wedding: \1. Dressed in the old self: He knows about the Lord but turns a blind eye.
“that ye put away, as concerning your former manner of life, the old man, that waxeth corrupt after the lusts of deceit; and that ye be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man, that after God hath been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.” (Ephesians 4:22-24)
\2. Wearing patched clothes: He knows about the Lord but adapts the Word to justify his wrongdoing.
“And no man putteth a piece of undressed cloth upon an old garment; for that which should fill it up taketh from the garment, and a worse rent is made. Neither do [men] put new wine into old wine-skins: else the skins burst, and the wine is spilled, and the skins perish: but they put new wine into fresh wine-skins, and both are preserved.” (Matthew 9:16-17)
\3. Dressed in sin: He loves the delights and pleasures of the flesh.
“For they that are after the flesh mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For the mind of the flesh is death; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace:” (Romans 8:5-6)
