Relax, I'm an expert at this! Did I say that in vain?

“Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD guards the city, the guard watches in vain. It is in vain that you rise early and go late to rest, eating the bread of sorrow, for God gives sleep to his beloved.” (Psalms 127:1-2)

Studying, getting a good job, building houses, owning a company, investing in profitable businesses, saving, and other pursuits give us confidence to the point of feeling secure. Yet David, who built and expanded his kingdom, enjoyed the people’s favor through so many victories, and possessed great wealth, was clear that his trust was not in those things but in the Lord!
David’s conviction came from clearly knowing who the Lord was! That is why he depended completely on and trusted the King of Glory. He recognized that even though he was king of Israel and had guards and people under his authority, things could slip out of his hands. He knew that, despite the difficulties he faced each day, he could say:

“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me live securely.” (Psalms 4:8)

God wants to teach us that gifts, talents, education, business, and money are of no use if he is not at the center. ‘Those who build it labor in vain… The guard watches in vain.’ In the end, we are building on sand.

Today, it is good to understand that:

\1. It is always better in his hands

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. Acknowledge him in all your ways, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

\2. It is worth trusting the Holy Spirit: he is an expert in the matter and will teach us!

“But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.” (John 14:26)

\3. He wants to lead us into a deeper relationship with him

“I had heard of you by hearsay, but now my eyes see you.” (Job 42:5)

\4. We do not know everything

“Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and turn away from evil.” (Proverbs 3:7)

What if we began trusting the Lord and inviting him into every plan, dream, and activity—everything we do day by day?
History teaches us that it is worthwhile. The Word teaches us that it is worthwhile.
