Children of God or Not?

“of how much sorer punishment, think ye, shall he be judged worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant wherewith he was sanctified an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” (Hebrews 10:29-31)

When we were little, we were told a story called The Boy Who Cried Wolf. He delighted in lying again and again until people grew tired of him. Then one day, when he truly needed help, they did not believe him or take him seriously, until it was too late. The same happens to anyone who, after being healed, restored, renewed, and washed clean, chooses to return to the mud, denying the redeeming work the Lord has done (Matthew 10:33).

“For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein and overcome, the last state is become worse with them than the first. For it were better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered unto them. It has happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog turning to his own vomit again, and the sow that had washed to wallowing in the mire.” (2 Peter 2:20-22)

The Word says:

“But ye are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. But if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” (Romans 8:9)

The Lord knows who we are not only because he is omnipresent. We are easily recognized by the Lord because those who belong to him stand out:

“… all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.” (Romans 8:14)

. In a few words, if we are truly converted, then we must have the Holy Spirit within us! So today is a good time to clarify whether we are his children or not… It is impossible to fool the Lord with appearances! What do you say? Are we living like the boy who cried wolf, or do we have the Holy Spirit as confirmation that we are God’s children?

“Now when they heard [this], they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do? And Peter [said] unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:37-38)
