Isaiah 26:3-4 — Anxiety
“You will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind remains fixed on you, because they have trusted in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for in the LORD God is everlasting strength.”

Anxiety means a state of anguish or distress that a person generally experiences without a present reason to worry. Anxiety leads someone to focus on the future rather than the present, producing fear, worry, and unease.
What is more, anxiety is accompanied by various symptoms, such as:

  • Psychological: Feeling threatened and in danger when there is no danger, insecurity, and fear of losing control.
  • Physical: Shortness of breath, inability to eat, constant tension, and inability to sleep.
  • Cognitive: Inability to concentrate, forgetfulness, difficulty paying attention, confusion, and excessive worry.
  • Social: Difficulty maintaining conversations because of becoming irritated easily.

So What Can We Do to Avoid Anxiety?

God’s Word offers us guidance… Let us consider the following points:

\1. Believing His Promises

“And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which Jehovah your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, not one thing hath failed thereof.” (Joshua 23:14)

Why? Because:

“God is faithful, through whom ye were called into the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.” (1 Corinthians 1:9)

“For how many soever be the promises of God, in him is the yea: wherefore also through him is the Amen, unto the glory of God through us.” (2 Corinthians 1:20)

Do we believe him?

\2. Seeking God’s Kingdom and His Righteousness

“But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Be not therefore anxious for the morrow: for the morrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” (Matthew 6:33-34)

A few things, or all of them?

\3. Receiving the Lord’s Peace

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

Jesus himself reminds us:

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.” (John 14:27)

Can we declare, as David did:

“I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for Jehovah sustaineth me.” (Psalms 3:5)

How do we avoid anxiety?
By deciding today to come to the Lord:

“… all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
